For his passionate spirit and student-focused giving heart, Shawn White has been named this year’s Dodge County High School Teacher of the Year!

After the surprise delivery of his award was presented by DCHS administrators, White said, “I am truly humbled and touched to receive this honor at my Alma Mater! I can’t think of anywhere better to work!”

Excited for White’s many great accomplishments Dr. Susan Long stated, “It is a pleasure to recognize Mr. White as the Teacher of the Year.

“He displays such high expectations for himself and the students he teaches! We are very proud to have him represent DCHS.”

Thrilled to recognize her fellow math teacher and friend, Math chairperson Sheena Orange, exclaimed, “I have never worked with someone so meticulous about perfecting his craft!

“When students aren’t doing their best, Mr. White takes it personally and works hard to make sure all students receive the help they need. He is an asset to this department, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving!”

Before joining the DCHS staff, White began his teaching career in Bleckley County, where he taught for seventeen years. He has now been in Dodge for six years teaching secondary math to students grades nine through twelve. This means that he has been teaching for a total of twenty-three years, and he is still exceedingly passionate about his occupation!

Not only is White committed to DCHS as a teacher, but he is also involved in extracurriculars. White is an advisor of Student Council and Math Club, where he works hard to achieve great things with fellow students and staff.

Between creating lesson plans and building Homecoming floats, White enjoys spending his free time watching sports on television, listening to music, and playing Candy Crush - in spite of the challenge his being colorblind presents. When asked what he loves the most about teaching, White enthusiastically responded, “I love taking something that I am so passionate about and using it to give back to others! I love to teach, and I love math!”

Inspired by his faith in Christ, White can’t wait to see what this year holds for him; his wife, Jennifer, a teacher at South Dodge Elementary; his daughter Logan, a junior at DCHS; and his students!
